The wait is finally over for the football enthusiasts in Pema Gatshel. After two years amid the pandemic, the “Babu Tashi Rolling Trophy” football tournament resumed recently. For the football lovers in Pema Gatshel, it gives them the opportunity to rekindle their passion and love for the game.

Unlike other districts, not much happen when it comes to football in Pema Gatshel. The district doesn’t have artificial turfs and other facilities. However, they look forward to the “Babu Tashi Rolling Trophy” every year. The open football tournament is one of the major football tournaments in the district.

For the past two years, the tournament was suspended due to the coronavirus.

However, the tournament resumed this year. 11 teams are participating in the tournament. It is played during weekends attracting many spectators.

“We have to always stay at home doing chores. So, it is refreshing to spectate this kind of tournament. We are happy as the event resumed,” said Sangay Chezom, a resident.

It is an annual event since 2015. The tournament is organized to commemorate the founder of Yurung Central School, Late Babu Tashi. The tournament will end this month.
