Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic began, washing hands and using hand sanitiser became a new normal. And with innovation, practising safety measures has become easier and more convenient. For the first time, a group of youth in Thimphu has invented an automatic liquid soap and hand sanitiser dispenser.
Having to use soap and hand sanitiser manually now and then could sometimes be annoying. But, Thang Thong’ 85’, a youth-led project has an automatic dispenser to solve the problem. Equipped with a sensor, it just requires the show of palm after which a small amount of sanitiser discharges automatically.
One of the members of the group, Tashi Dema, said after she knew about the technology through Facebook she was interested in the idea.
“Today, I feel happy and proud that we are able to make something like that,” she said.
It took the group six months to produce a fully functional dispenser. The product is cheaper than the imported ones and also comes with a warranty.
“We will continue making the dispensers. The product is repairable. We also provide a three-month warranty,” said Tashi Namgay who initiated the making of the dispenser.
50 such dispensers will be freely distributed to various Basic Heath Units and crowded places in the country.
It will also be available for purchase. While the filled dispenser will cost Nu 2000, the empty ones will cost Nu 1700.
