About 50 vehicles, including six trucks ferrying mandarin, are stuck at the Gelegphu border gate following a strike in the neighbouring Indian state of Assam. The vehicles are headed to Phuentshogling, Samtse, Gelegphu and Samdrup Jongkhar.
The Gelegphu police said the 48-hours strike was called by Assam’s Muslim community. Media reports say the community is protesting against the Assam Government for neglecting their community and not bringing any development activities to their community.
The ongoing strike is also said to have hampered the Orange business in Gelegphu and Phuentshogling as majority of the trucks ferrying the fruit travel through Assam.
The vehicles are expected to be allowed to move from Thursday morning.
