The recent arrests of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bhutan Telecom, Tshewang Gyeltshen and the former Chang Gup, Naku are reportedly related.
Our source says they were involved in a land scam.
The Telecom CEO was apprehended by Anti-Corruption Commission officials in the wee hours of Saturday morning. Former Chang Gup Naku was apprehended on Thursday morning.
Prior to becoming the CEO of the Bhutan Telecom, Tshewang Gyeltshen worked as the Director of the Land Registration Division of the National Land Commission.
In the meantime, Gup Naku is said to be in the hospital receiving treatment. He was admitted on the second day of his detention. Gup Naku worked as the Chang Gup in Thimphu in the late ‘90s.
The Anti-Corruption Act 2011 gives the Commission right to arrest, without warrant, any person upon reasonable suspicion of having committed or about to commit an offense.
