The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) handed over more than one hundred antique pieces to the Department of Culture yesterday.
The antique items, worth over Nu 2 m, include cat-eye, statues, jewelleries, silver coins and other valuable relics.
The items were recovered from 12 people convicted in chorten vandalism cases by the Monggar District Court.
The convicts stole the items from over one hundred chorten and lhakhangs in Monggar between 1997 and 2017.
The handing of the relics was done as per the court judgement.
In the judgement passed in November last year, the court sentenced the 12 men to prison terms ranging from six years to life imprisonment and ordered the police and the OAG to handover the items to the concerned authorities.
The Department of Culture will segregate the items and hand it back to Monggar dzongkhag for restoration.
