Their wait for an Early Childhood Care Development or ECCD Centre is finally over. And now they are waiting for a facilitator. The construction of the centre in Chhubarthang of Umling Gewog in Sarpang was completed a few months back. It is expected to benefit the children of Tashithang, Chhuburthang and Thongjazor villages.
Children are either kept with grandparents at home or with neighbours when the parents go to work every day. Farmers in Chhubarthang need not have to do this anymore if the district recruits a facilitator for their new ECCD centre.
“We are eagerly waiting for a facilitator as we don’t have to send our children to faraway places. When a child attends school in far-off places, especially small children, they find it difficult to cross the busy roads,” said Norbu Wangmo, from Chhubharthang.
“There is a childcare centre in Umling but it is far. Now this centre in our community will be convenient for us. We can easily reach our children to the centre and come back home for household chores and fieldwork. We hope to receive the teacher soon,” added Ugyen Lhamo.
Meanwhile, the Dzongkhag Education Officer said they are following up with the education ministry for the facilitator.
The centre is constructed at a cost of Nu 600,000 with support from Global Partnership for Education or GPE. The GPE funds projects focused on providing quality education to children in lower-income countries.
