Of late, locals of Dagana District have started to have hot stone bath in Dungchen Menchu.
They believe that the hot stone bath will cure ailments such as back pain, knee and join pain, and stomach ache among others.
Be it on weekends or other public holidays, people throng the site. With new bathtubs, a changing room, toilets and a renovated road, visitors have been pouring in like never before.
They have to wait for long hours to get their turn to soak in the bathtub.
“I feel blessed as I prayed for the holy water to heal my illness,” said one of the visitors, Tshering Dema.
Legend has it that a horn, a hidden relic by Guru Rinpoche emerged from the rock and then flew to Karna Gewog, where Dekiling Lhakhang stands today.
From the hole in the rock, the holy water streams out.
Sangay said: “It is Guru Rinpoche’s blessed water. We have to bathe with complete devotion and the medicinal benefits are immense. The water cures many ailments.”
The new facilities at the hot spring site were developed by the Dagana Dzongkhag Administration with financial assistance from Dagachu Hydro Power Corporation.
