Addressing human development through peer mediation was the focus of this year’s peer mediation workshop held in Bumthang. The President of the Bhutan National Legal Institute (BNLI), Her Royal Highness Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck graced the opening of the workshop.
Two students and a teacher each from 11 schools of eastern and central region attended the two-day workshop on peer mediation, which began on Saturday.
The President of the BNLI, Her Royal Highness Princes Sonam Dechan Wangchuck who graced the opening of the workshop spoke about the importance of values and learning from good examples.
“We have to learn to value our country, but to value something we must first know what makes something precious. I think the most important thing for everyone is to learn this and then work towards protecting our precious country through your services,” said HRH Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck, President, BNLI.
The workshop is part of the BNLI’s efforts to promote peer mediation as a conflict management strategy in schools.
The students said the law clubs in the schools, which is also an initiative of the BNLI, has helped them a lot in understanding law better.
They said it has also helped them develop various mediation techniques.
