A 36-year-old woman suffering from a brain-related disease passed away at the Gelephu COVID isolation ward today. She tested NEGATIVE for COVID but was kept on a ventilator in the isolation ward since last Thursday because of her underlying medical conditions. The deceased was airlifted to a hospital in Guwahati from the national referral hospital on January 4. However, she was sent back on January 6 as there was no cure for her disease.
The deceased returned to the country on January 6 via road. She reached Gelephu accompanied by her husband and her brother. Since they were returning from another country they were made to undergo the 14-day mandatory quarantine. They were checked for COVID-19 on Monday and her brother tested positive. And a further test yesterday showed that the husband and the doctor attending her have also contracted the virus while her test remained negative.
There are four nurses and supporting staff at the isolation ward. They were all quarantined.
