Most young Bhutanese in Trongsa, Zhemgang and Samtse are malnourished, reveals a survey conducted by Tarayana Foundation.
Tarayana Foundation’s Consultant, Yuden Dorji, said although majority of the people in the three dzonkhags were farmers and grow vegetables, they haven’t realised the importance of feeding their children, locally produced crops.
The CSO is now working towards educating the parents about the importance of nutritious meals through a programme called “One Dish Meals”.
One Dish Meals is a concept developed to address food and nutrition security among rural Bhutanese. The dishes are developed on the basis of the traditional meal, but with improved nutritional content.
Tarayana Foundation through South Asian Food and Nutrition Security Initiatives hopes to educate parents on the importance of home cooked nutritious meals for their children.
