The two-week-long oral transmission of the Dudjom Sungbum in Gelephu concluded today not only with final prayers and blessings, but with a powerful act of service. Nearly seven thousand devotees chose to stay back to offer Zhabtog, voluntary service towards the Gelephu Mindfulness City, turning devotion into action.
On the concluding day, Garab Rinpoche bestowed the sacred Ka-gye Wang and Khandro’i Tshe-wang to more than 60,000 devotees gathered in Gelephu.
While many began their journey home after receiving weeks of teachings and blessings, thousands remained behind, determined to contribute in whatever way they could to His Majesty’s vision of the Gelephu Mindfulness City.
For many, the opportunity to volunteer was just as meaningful as receiving the spiritual empowerment.
“I have not only been able to take part in the prayer event and be blessed, but I am also fortunate to take part in the voluntary works. Although I cannot do much, I am very happy to do all that I can to support His Majesty’s vision,” said Pem Dorji, Volunteer, Monggar.
“GMC is a very important project of our King. We were worried we wouldn’t get the opportunity to contribute. We may not be able to help financially, but we can contribute through our voluntary work,” said Dorji Tshering, Volunteer, Samdrup Jongkhar.
“I saw people volunteering here through television and social media. That inspired me to come and help. Joining this programme benefits our country and all of us,” said Tshoki Wangmo, Volunteer, Bumthang.
“I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. I even left my child at home to come here and contribute my service. I am very happy today,” said Pema Yangki, Volunteer, Trashigang.
The volunteers, including Pelsuups, carried out soft bush clearing in Tashiling, Rabdeling, and Chuzagang. They were also engaged in cleaning and maintaining town areas.
For now, the prayer ceremony may have concluded. But in Gelephu, the spirit of participation continues, strong, visible, and at work, reflecting a shared commitment to both spiritual devotion and nation-building.
