The recently opened 5-Dimensional or 5D cinema at Chamkhar in Bumthang has left the children and young people in the town excited.
The cinema, owned by a young man, is already doing a good business. It is becoming a popular place for leisure among young minds.
Students can be seen rushing to the cinema straight from school. “This is really exciting,” Rigyel Rai said. “The characters in the clips look real. I want to come here often.”
“It’s really interesting experiencing 5D cinema. Lots of people come to experience it,” says another student.
The owner Tshering Phuntsho said compared to other places like Thimphu, Phuentshogling and Gelegphu, the population of Bumthang is relatively less, but since he is from Bumthang, it was more convenient for him to start the business in Chamkhar and not in other districts.
“Also, I wanted to help the kids and young people here get some exposure,” Tshering Phuntsho said.
“When we first started off with the cinema business, people didn’t know what 5D was. They just knew about 3D pictures. Now, with 5D and all those seat movements and various effects, they are having an all-new experience,” he added.
A 5-Dimensional cinema is a blend of 3D films and seat movements complemented by various special effects such as fire, snowflakes, fog and bubbles among others.
This lets viewers experience the settings in the film as in real world atmosphere. There are currently two 5D cinemas in the country.
