Pemathang community forest was handed over to the 56 households of Dungmanma village under Lumang Gewog in Trashigang yesterday. The community forest has more than 450 acres of forest. Until now, it was taken care by the Dzongkhag Forestry Division.
By handing over the community forest to the people, it is expected to make the community realise the importance of preserving resources to generate income for the community, thereby reducing poverty. The community now has to take care and manage the forest resources themselves.
Wamrong Dungpa, Dzongkhag and Dungkhag Forest officer, Gewog officials and local community members attended the ceremony.
