Around 300 highlanders from three Gewogs of Paro and Thimphu brought in their Cordycep harvest for sale in the first Cordycep auction of the year. More than 45 buyers took part in the two-day auction.
On the first day of the auction, over 270 sellers had registered to auction their harvest.
After the harvest are brought in, the officials categorises them into groups, depending on their quality.
The highest bidder takes away the best harvest.

The auctioning system was started by the government in 2004. The law now forbids any direct dealing between the buyers and sellers during the auctioning period. However, they can do so but only when the auctioning period is over.
If found breaking this rule, the goods will be seized and the offenders fined. A general penalty of Nu. 5,000-50,000 and Nu. 10 for each piece of Cordycep will be levied.
