The National Assembly will hold two public hearings in the coming months, on the Economic Stimulus Programme and the Public Service Delivery. The Economic and Finance Committee aims to update the public on ESP progress, challenges, and its impact on economic recovery. Meanwhile, the Good Governance Committee will assess service gaps and explore ways to enhance efficiency in local governance.
A one-day preparatory workshop was held on Tuesday for the committees to prepare for the public hearings. Public hearing is a meeting where government officials listen to the opinions, concerns, and suggestions of the public on important issues, laws, or policies. It allows citizens, experts, and stakeholders to share their views before decisions are made.
The Good Governance Committee is in Gelephu meeting people to understand the issues and challenges they face while accessing public service. They will be meeting more people in other districts as well.
Namgay Dorji, Chairperson of Good Governance Committee said “Here in Dekiling, services are delivered by the concerned agencies. However, amenities such as computers have become outdated, taking about an hour to start. Additionally, people shared that lack of human resources, the absence of a Gaydrung, and slow internet speed are affecting service delivery.”
The government will then be working to address these issues. Moreover, the recommendations will be put up to the parliament following the public hearings to improve public service delivery.
Meanwhile, the Economic and Finance Committee did not share any details about the public hearing concerning the Economic Stimulus Programme.
The hearing on public service delivery will be held in August and ESP public hearing will be organised on 16th May.
