Phuentsholing police have arrested two Bhutanese men in connection with the illegal transaction of controlled substances and smuggling of tobacco products last Saturday.
In the case involving illegal transaction of controlled substances, the 27-year-old man was found in possession of 900 files of Spasmo Proxyvon capsules. He was intercepted at the main gate on Saturday afternoon after a tip-off from an informer. The convict confessed that the substance was for sale and had bought it from Birpara, an Indian town about 45 kilometres from Phuentsholing. It was worth Nu. 45,000.
In the tobacco case, the 23-year-old man was caught at the Rincheding check post during the wee hours on Saturday. He was trying to smuggle about 36 kilogrammes of two different types of chewing tobacco concealed in vegetable and rice bags. The tobacco products worth Nu. 10,000 were bought from Jaigoan.
The convict had confessed that it was for sale to the labourers of Punatsangchhu Hydro Power Project in Wangdue Phodrang.
