Learning becomes interesting for the students of Rinchengang Primary School in Wangdue Phodrang. With the motive to promote smart learning, the school recently received nine smart televisions from the Thedtsho Gewog Administration. Besides helping students develop quick learning skills and keeping students engaged in the absence of a teacher, the new initiative is also expected to enhance the quality of education in the school.
As part of the project, today all classrooms in Rinchengang Primary School are fully equipped with a 55-inch Smart TV.
Along with the smart TVs, all classrooms will also be provided with a desktop computer each soon. The computer will be used to store learning materials.
The electronics will also be connected to internet to help teachers and student access all needed information and teaching materials online.
“Our teachers will not have to face problems while teaching in the class if we have a television smart screen. It will help to plan their teachings and teach the students as per the plans. Even if they get any doubts, they can easily solve it by opening the screen and searching it from the internet. It can help to solve any kind of doubts immediately,” said Nima Dorji, Principal of Rinchengang Primary School.
Students are equally excited about the new facility in their school.
“If we have television, we could explore more words and we can explore the countries which we don’t know, and to know the traditional of other countries and know the languages,” said Samdrup Norbu Jamtsho, a student.
“Before like we have to go to lots of places searching for one word’s meaning. Now, we have a smart TV in our class so that we can easily search the words in our class without going anywhere,” said Sarita Kharka, another student.
Similarly, the smart screen would benefit teachers in the classroom to deliver their teachings on time. Teachers will no longer have to use their phones or their personal laptops to find their required teaching materials.
“For instance, our students are taking keen interest even when we teach them using our mobile phones. So, our students will take much more interest if we teach them using smart television screen. Likewise, we can also open our PowerPoint documents easily by sharing the hotspot net to the screen,” said Tandin Namgay, a teacher.
“We can also keep our students away from doing naughty things during the interval and lunch time if a teacher or a student coordinate and show some programs in the television. So, it has immense benefits,” said Nima Dorji, the Principal.
The gewog administration spent about 1.2 million ngultrum for the project. For now, Rinchengang Primary School is the only school in the district, which is fully equipped smart TVs.
Established in 2008, the Rinchengang Primary School has over two hundred students and eleven teachers today.
