Over 15,000 cases were registered in courts across the country in 2012, indicating an increase of over 13 percent as compared to 2011.
According to Annual Report of the Judiciary 2012, Thimphu Dzongkhag Court saw the highest number of cases with 4,128, followed by Phuentsholing Dungkhag Court with 814 cases.
Statistics showed matrimonial cases topping the list closely followed by monetary cases.
Meanwhile, of the total cases handled last year, 14,150 cases were decided, showing an increase of four percent in judicial process and rendering fair trial.
The Report shows courts in Haa, Pemagatshel, Tsirang, Jomotshangkha, Nganglam, Sakten, Sipsu, Sombaykha and Weringla have reduced delays and performed promptly in delivering justice by having zero case balance in 2012.
