The Southern COVID-19 Task Force initiated the second phase of unlocking in Phuentshogling today. The town is divided into three mega zones and people are allowed to move only in their respective mega zones for a week. However, not many people are seen coming out of their homes.

Currently, only designated shops selling essentials and hardware are allowed to open. While restaurant, salo0ns and bars continue to remain closed. The automobile workshops are allowed to operate with 50 per cent of its staff. However, schools and offices are still closed.

With the detection of COVID-19 cases from the community, people are reluctant to come out. The first COVID-19 community transmission was detected some 35 days ago.

“I didn’t see many people in the town today. In my case, I went to the hospital for a check-up. Actually, it is better if people don’t come out if it is not necessary. It is safe if we stay home,” said Kamala Ghalley, a resident.

“I feel that people are not coming out as we still have some COVID-19 positive cases in the community. People are more cautious and strictly adhering to safety protocols,” said another resident, Dorji Norbu.

Megazone 1 starts from Toorsa Tar till Omchhu and from Omchhu river till Rinchending falls under Megazone 2. Mega zone 3 is from Rinchending and goes till Singyechhu in Pasakha.

With the surge in the COVID-19 cases, the 68-bedded COVID-19 hospital is almost full. The Druk Green Power Corporation’s Regional Office in Phuentshogling has been identified as a second COVID hospital. The medical equipment and facilities are yet to be installed.

Over 180 COVID-19 cases were detected since the first case on April 16 in Phuentshogling.

Further lockdown relaxation will be initiated after a week.
