Sangbeykha Dungkhag Court has sentenced a former land record assistant to three-and-a-half-month imprisonment for embezzlement.

The judgment was passed on Thursday.

The 60-year-old man was convicted for embezzling excess land payment during the new sathram compilation survey conducted from 1999 to 2000.

The court judgment says the man had siphoned off half the excess land payment collected from ten households in Samer and Sangbeykha Gewogs.

The court has also asked the former land record assistant to pay Nu 1, 79,661 to the government within six months from the day of the judgment.

The case surfaced in 2012 when the government started refunding excess land payment to land owners.

The Anti-Corruption Commission, following a complaint from Haa Dzongkhag Administration, investigated the case and forwarded it to the Office of Attorney General earlier last year.

The convict can pay thrimthue in lieu of prison sentence.
