New foreign minister explains removal of former ministerThe new foreign minister, Damcho Dorji said they are letting the former foreign minister, Rinzin Dorje step down so that he could go ahead with the case without having to worry about the ministry.

The Lhakhang Karpo case is in the High Court after the Office of Attorney General submitted their appeal petitions against Haa District Court’s judgment that acquitted Rinzin Dorje. He was charged with abuse of functions and embezzlement of public property as the former Haa Dzongdag.

Lyonpo Damcho Dorji said the post had to be filled as the government was worried the ministry would be left without a minister for a long time.

“The foreign policies have lot of bearing in the sovereignty and security of our country. And it is very important for the government, especially for this government, to ensure that all these foreign policies are played right and that we do not make any compromises.”

He also said they appreciate the fact that the foreign Minister Rinzin Dorje has acknowledged the importance of filling up the pose while his case is going on.
