PHPA’s headquarter to be relocated

PHPA’s headquarter to be relocatedMinistry of Economic Affairs is relocating Punatshangchhu Hydropower Project’s headquarter to their site in Wangdue Phodrang, in a bid to limit number of tours being availed by the PHPA officials.

Economic affairs minister, Norbu Wangchuk, during Meet the Press session, yesterday, said this is one of the several steps being taken.

The initiative comes in the wake of the Royal Audit Authority’s Report 2012-13, which reveal several top officials from PHPA had gone on tours for as many as 200 to 336 days a year.

“Some of the reasons for availing many tours by PHPA officials, was because the officials were handling two projects; Punatshangchhu I and II, simultaneously.”

Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk also said several systematic changes are being put in place, such as making tour reports mandatory while coming back from tours and not allowing officials to combine leave with holidays.

“I have instructed them that they can avail a maximum of six days in-country tour and five days tour abroad.”
