Mobile Library Bus to start operating from January

Dec 26, 2013

Mobile Library BusThe Mobile Library Bus will start providing library services to those children living away from the main city area in Thimphu, from January. The  bus, procured by Save The Children office, was handed over to Thimphu Thromde office, today.

Mobile-Library-Bus.The National Director of Save The Children, M.B.Ghaley, said Education without the Compromise report reiterates that children who read for leisure do better in their schools. “We all know, that generally, the Bhutanese by nature have poor reading habits. For a city with over 14,000 school-going children, we felt that the number making use of the public library was very negligible.”

The bus will be manned by the staff of Jigme Dorji Wangchuck Public Library. The maintenance and operational costs will be borne by the Thimphu Thromde.

The Mobile Library Bus services will be operating on the weekends. It will start from 8:30 or 9am. “We will be serving two hours and during that time we will be organizing reading and storytelling,” said M.B.Ghaley.

He also said they have identified eight areas in South and North Thimphu. The eight designated areas will be Changaydarphu, Motithang Labour camp, Centenary Park, Police camp, Serbithang, Olakha, Luntenphu and Taba Army camp.

If the Mobile Library Bus service in Thimphu proves to be useful, Save the Children will raise funds to initiate similar services in other parts of the country.
