The National Council endorsed the Domestic Violence Prevention Bill, today. Nineteen members voted for the bill and one voted against.
Before the endorsement, the National Council member, Kuenlay Tshering also proposed the need to have a separate court specialised in dealing with issues related to domestic violence. He said according to the Constitution, the judiciary has full right to institute a separate court as and when required. The proposal was backed by 13 National Council representatives. Seven members voted against the motion.
The Upper House also ratified two SAARC agreements. The two SAARC agreements are the Implementation of Regional Standards and the Mutual Arrangement on Multilateral Assessment.
