The country is all set to go to polls for the primary round of the fourth National Assembly Elections tomorrow. Over 3,200 officials are deployed in more than 800 polling stations across the country. The polls open at 8 AM and will close at 4 PM.

According to the final electoral roll of the Election Commission of Bhutan, there are over 496,000 Bhutanese eligible to vote in the fourth National Assembly Elections. Of them, nearly 126,000 have registered for postal ballots.

The ECB said arrangements in polling stations across all twenty districts are all set for tomorrow.

“After the National Council Elections, we have started preparing for the poll day. Whatever we have to do, we have done and everything is in place. We are well prepared from our side but to be very honest, the preparations also have to be from the voters’ side to make the elections successful. So, we would like to request all the voters to be prepared and come to vote tomorrow,” said Phub Dorji, Director of the Secretariat.

Of the officials deployed on election duty, nine polling officials and eight security personnel have been dispatched in helicopter to Wachey, Thanza, Lhedi and Eusuna in Lunana as the areas have received snowfall.

The poll day tomorrow is declared as a public holiday and all offices, and business entities are to remain closed. However, restaurants and eateries can remain open but sale of alcohol or liquor is prohibited. International border gates have closed from 6 PM tonight and will remain closed until 6 PM tomorrow.
