A political party, Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa says the Taxi Operating Permit (TOP) is yet another policy of social injustice.
Taxi Operating Permit (TOP) will not allow those driving hired cabs to avail the permit. The Road Safety and Transport Authority’s rule will be implemented starting March.
“Obviously, this policy will allow only those who can afford to buy a taxi and not the once who are supporting their families by running a hired Taxi,” says a press release from DNT.
It says almost 60 percent of taxi operators currently do not own one.
RSTA had said the rule is to be implemented to decongest the traffic.
DNT, on the other hand, said they could not find any justification or a need-based analysis done by the concerned authorities to prove that TOP is the most efficient method to decongest roads.
The press release goes on to say the party is concerned that it will unnecessarily widen the gap and create social injustice.
“We believe that people are not against inequality but people are against unjust inequality – inequality created through social injustice.”
