Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde entered the phase two relaxations from yesterday. People will be allowed to walk within their respective zones. All shops selling essential items will remain open. Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde was under lockdown on January 20.
Inter-zone movement is allowed only for collecting medicine from the outpatient department at Tendrelthang. Construction activities are allowed to operate in self-containment mode. But all the offices will remain closed.
Samdrup Jongkhar district reported more than 2,000 positive cases between yesterday and January 20. And over 300 cases are reported from the community.
“We still see commu nity cases despite front-line workers such as De-Suups, police, health officials and many others are working hard. A few days ago, Samdrup Jongkhar reported the highest cases. When the lockdown prolongs, people who depend on small businesses are hampered,” said Dorji Namgay, a shopkeeper.
“It has been a difficult journey, especially for those who own small businesses and taxi drivers. We would be grateful if the government can relax the lockdown,” said Wangpo, a taxi driver.
According to a notification from Eastern COVID-19 Task Force, Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde continues to detect COVID-19 cases from containment centres, red clusters and buildings and a few green buildings as well.
However, case detection through mobile and flu clinics has been reduced. Meanwhile, according to sources, more relaxation will come into effect upon the completion of vaccination for children aged five to 11 years.
