Sarpang Dzong construction is in full swing with more than 24 per cent works completed. The construction works of the new dzong began in January last year. It is expected to be complete by 2023.
Spanning in an area of more than 11 acres, the new dzong is being constructed in the same place where the old dzongkhag administration stood.
The new dzong will house dzongkhag administration and rabdey blocks. At present, they are constructing the dzongkhag administration, which consists of five blocks.
The Project Manager for the Dzong Construction, Sangay Kinga, said the foundation work for all the five blocks and some of the slab casting for ground and first floors have been completed.
“It is challenging in summer to carry out casting works because of it we have done in dry seasons. In the summer, workers are engaged in timber work, stonework like chiselling and cutting of boulders.”
He said labours turning up for the Dzong construction is not a problem, but getting skilled labourers remain a challenge. He added regarding the unskilled workers, “we try to offer them work, make them learn and make use of our skilled workers to train them. One of the main objectives of theSarpang Dzong construction is to build our own team.”
The estimated cost for Sarpang Dzong construction is Nu 1bn. The Government of India has committed to finance the project. Till date, Nu 218 M has been spent on the project.
