OAG bill to be deliberated in parliament’s joint sitting

NC-OAGBillThe National Council rejected nine amended sections from the National Assembly on the Office of the Attorney General Bill 2014. The bill will now be deliberated in the Joint Sitting of the Parliament.

The Upper House feels the Section 8 of the OAG’s bill has to be kept as it is. National Assembly has removed the section which states Attorney General in consultation with government may establish regional and other offices across the country.

The National Council also dismissed the Assembly’s recommendation to mention time frame in section 27. The section states after receiving the case of litigation or prosecution, the office shall expeditiously review facts of the case. Assembly had recommended adding time frame as not later than six months.

However, the house did endorse about 19 proposals from the Assembly.

The National council had passed the OAG bill in the summer session of 2014. The bill had gone to the National Assembly for deliberation.
