BBS-MoHCA-Wangdue-Reconstruction-FundThe Bhutan Broadcasting Service raised over Nu.65.5 million for the reconstruction of the Wangdue Phodrang Dzong. The amount, along with the list of contributors, was officially handed over to the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs, today.

The fund was raised through a series of Live Fund Raiser programmes produced by BBS over a period of four months.

Contributors ranged from students of remote schools to yak herders, private citizens, businessmen, institutions and organisations. Contributions also came in from the armed forces and the monastic community.

The BBS Managing Director, Thinley Dorji, has expressed that the response by the Bhutanese people was overwhelming. He also shared that it had been encouraging to see people from all walks of life come together for such a noble cause.

The Home and Cultural Affairs Minister, Minjur Dorji, thanked BBS for the initiative and said the home ministry has completed the drawing and structural plan for the dzong’s reconstruction.

The historic Wangdue Phodrang Dzong was completely gutted on June 24, last year.
