The much-anticipated Bhutan Innovation Forum opened today at the Dungkar Dzong in Pangbisa, Paro. Noting the forum as the biggest and most important event for Bhutan, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay at the opening address said that it is a platform to reflect on Bhutan’s achievements, envision its future, and transform vision into reality. The prime minister highlighted three exemplary innovations that affirm Bhutan’s innovative spirit.

The Bhutan Innovation Forum is bringing together 125 world-class-speakers including at least 20 CEOs, four Nobel Laureates, and a host of academics, artists, thought leaders, scientists, business leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, and civil society leaders.

The three-day forum will also see hundreds of Bhutanese attendees and guests from over 60 countries.

Making the opening remarks, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay said that the forum is a platform for dialogue and collaboration, one that will propel Bhutan towards a sustainable, prosperous and inclusive future.

“From Australia to Kenya, Uruguay and beyond. This forum gives us a unique opportunity to brainstorm ideas, bold ideas that push the frontiers of our imagination. As we join hands to pursue His Majesty’s vision for a mindful, happy, and prosperous Bhutan.”

Additionally, the prime minister highlighted Dungkar Dzong as one of three exemplary innovations that stand as a testament to Bhutanese ingenuity and vision, as it embodies both tradition and modernity.

“Envisioned and built by His Majesty, this modern fortress is rooted in Bhutan’s traditional architectural styles and values yet serves as a contemporary marvel aptly designed to meet the needs of 21st Century Bhutan.”

He added Bhutan Baccalaureate, an educational initiative spearheaded by His Majesty and implemented by the Royal Academy, based inside the Dungkar Dzong as the second innovation.

The prime minister said the programme blends traditional Bhutanese values with 21st-century skills, preparing youth with critical thinking, creativity, and global citizenship for a rapidly changing world.

“The third innovation is Gelephu Mindfulness City. This visionary city exemplifies His Majesty’s commitment to innovation that respects our spiritual and cultural values. This project envisions a future of urban living, where people live and grow in harmony with each other and with the natural environment.”

Meanwhile, the prime minister said that Bhutan is small, but it is a committed member of the global community, achieving its goals through partnerships and collaboration. He urged attendees to take insights and experiences of this forum and use them as catalysts for change within their communities.
