DHI BizAP trains DeSuups with digital knowledge and skills

With the advancement of technology, people can accomplish all kinds of tasks without much effort. In the business world, entrepreneurs can explore the market including the global arena from the comfort of their homes. This is exactly what the DHI BizAP Digital Skill-Up Freelancing Programme aims to do. The programme is currently training 25 DeSuups with digital knowledge and skills.

The two-month training also aims to help participants in entering the Global Gig Economy or freelancing market.

A gig economy is a free and global market where companies and contractors recruit a worker for a short term based on the skill they have, especially in digital platform.

Today, more than a billion global workforces are involved in freelancing. And South Asia region is already a hotspot freelancing market.

“The course in-class session mainly consists of the web development. It will go very much depth into web development on WordPress and programing languages. It will also focus on the theory of Mobile App development, as well as the theory of Digital Marketing,” said Pema Wangchug, Senior Analyst of the Enterprise Development Division at DHI.

The programme also consists of an after-care segment which includes apprenticeships and other support.

The first batch of the Digital Skill-Up Freelancing Programme was completed in April with 25 university graduates. Today, eight of them have been employed in Digital Marketing and Accounting Firms based in Singapore. 12 are undergoing an after-care programme at the Start-Up center in Changzamtog, while the rest are self-employed.

“Right after this programme, DHI provided us with six months of aftercare programme where they will provide free internet and space. They also provide us with a mentor. During that time, we can bid on the projects through online platforms like fiber and upwork. We also bid on domestic bids like logo design and website development. And so far, we have completed two websites,” said Jigme Tenzin, a freelancer.

Launched in 2018, the DHI BizAP Entrepreneurship Programme aims to accelerate the start-ups and advanced stage business proposals.
