BPC to forward sexual harassment case to police

The Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC) forwarded the alleged sexual harassment case to the police today. Following a board meeting yesterday, the management discovered strong prima facie evidence against one of its directors who was accused of sexual harassment. A ‘prima facie evidence’ is evidence good and sufficient enough to pursue a case.

On September 20, a female staff of the BPC lodged a complaint against the director for the alleged sexual harassment which supposedly happened in the early morning of September 15. The woman was on a night shift with another female colleague when the incident happened.

A source said the woman decided to report the alleged incident to the management despite the pressure from the suspect, his relatives and friends to solve the case internally. The woman also told BBS that the incident left her depressed and disturbed forcing her to seek counselling from the RENEW.

The CEO of the BPC received the written complaint from the woman on September 22 and an inquiry committee was formed thereon.

Meanwhile, as per the source, the suspect also reportedly harassed two more female staff in the past.

The suspect was suspended last week and he will remain suspended until the case is resolved.
