Bhutan will receive an additional fund of 7.3 M Euros from the European Union (EU). The grant is approved for the establishment of the National Training Centre for Search and Rescue and the Water Flagship Programme.

The additional funding was formalised through the signing of a document between Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering and the Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development (DEVCO) Neven Mimica at the sidelines of the European Development Days (EDD) in Brussels.

Lyonchhen attended two days EDD from June 18- 19 upon the invitation of the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker.

The EU also assured continued support to Bhutan through the next EU Multi-annual Indicative Programme 2021-2027.

The EDD was instituted in 2006 by the European Union to bring together relevant global stakeholders to share ideas and experiences to inspire new partnerships and innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.

Lyonchhen will arrive in the country tomorrow.
