The shortage of poultry feed Tsirang experienced in the past few days has not affected the district’s capacity to produce eggs. Poultry farmers continue to meet the local demand and beyond. And during this period of lockdown, the district is supplying surplus eggs to Bhutan Livestock Development Corporation, BLDC.

A group from Zunglen under Drepoong Gewog in Monggar donated two bolero pickup truckloads of vegetables to religious institutions and Desuups in the district on Friday. According to the group, it is a display of solidarity from their part as the nationwide lockdown leaves many people with limited access to vegetable supply.

The management of Punatsangchu I and II Hydroelectric Project Authorities will soon submit a proposal to the Ministry of Economic Affairs to resume critical construction works at the project sites. Today, due to the nationwide lockdown, major works in the two projects have come to a standstill.

With the lockdown restriction eased across the country, farmers are now back in their fields, farming and tending their livestock. 

25 taxi drivers, volunteers of the Bhutan Red Cross Society have been working on the frontlines, supporting the COVID-19 response efforts in the capital, Thimphu.

Poultry farmers in Tsirang, the second-highest egg-producing district in the country are facing an acute shortage of poultry feed after the nationwide lockdown was enforced from August 11. 

To help ease the pressure on the demand for dairy products, Wangdue Phodrang district began to supply their surplus dairy products to neighbouring districts since Monday. And Thimphu, where the demand is high, received the supply twice. The dzongkhag has enough production for uninterrupted supply.

In the wake of Nationwide lockdown, Zoning Task Force distributed around 25,000 vegetable packages to the 44 zones in Thimphu today. The Zoning Task Force initiated the vegetable distribution following complaints from people on social media and to call centres about not receiving vegetables.

Many people have not been able to go to work due to nationwide lockdown. This situation has resulted in financial insecurities for few, especially for daily wage labourers. For daily wage workers and labourers, the lockdown means that they are now deprived of their only source of income. Most household in the current situation has few to no savings.

From over 900 contacts traced in connection to the 25-year-old loader in Phuentshogling, 564 have been tested resulting in 28 positive cases. With contacts of the index case traced to 12 districts and a positive case detected with no relation to the 25-year-old man, the looming threat of full-blown community transmission in the country cannot be ruled out.
