Nation gears up to celebrate coronation anniversary

The Government offices, schools and institutions will remain closed tomorrow to celebrate the fifth Coronation anniversary of His Majesty the King.

A seven-member delegation led by Jean Lambert, Chair of the Delegation for Relations with South Asia under European Parliament, called on Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, today.

Women detained for smuggling tobacco products

Two women, aged 39 and 45, were detained from Paro town on Monday, for smuggling tobacco products. Over Nu. 1,000 worth of tobacco products were seized from their shops.

30 university graduates to leave for Israel

About 30 university graduates were briefed by the Agriculture Minister today, on the internship course in Israel. The selected graduates will be soon leaving to Israel for the internship course in one of the private Agro-based firm for 11 months.

Royal Kathina Ceremony held in Simtokha Dzong

A 15-member delegation from Thailand, led by the Vice-Minister and Representative of the King participated in the Second Royal Kathina Ceremony, this morning. The ceremony was held at Simtokha Dzong.

An archery tournament is underway at the police training centre in Jigmeling in Sarpang. The tournament is organized annually by the Police training centre to commemorate the birth anniversary of His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo. It is also aimed at promoting police public relationship. Twenty seven teams from Bumthang, Dagana, Zhemgang, Tsirang and Sarpang are participating in the tournament. Of the total 24 have reached the knockout round.

In the continued match of the Coronation Archery tournament played between team Terton and team NTT construction at the upper range, today, team Terton defeated team NTT construction by winning two straight sets: 25-19 and 25-20. Team Terton will now face team Phojas in the finals scheduled for 2nd November. 32 teams have participated in the tournament organized by Woezer Events in collaboration with the Bhutan Indigenous Games and Sports Association.

Second chance for students

Students who fail classes 10 and 12 will be allowed to repeat in the same government school starting 2014. The government has decided this keeping in mind students who are unable to continue their studies due to economic reasons after failing to qualify for government schools.

Special Economic Zone landmarked

About 733 acres of land in Jigmeling under Sarpang dzongkhag has been landmarked for the special economic zone. Stakeholders met on Monday in Gelegphu to kick-start the process to develop the zone.
