Human resource shortage, a challenge in implementing Child Care and Protection Act

Shortage of human resource is one of the main challenges in effective implementation of the Child Care and Protection Act of Bhutan 2011, which is still in its nascent stage. The issue was shared by the stakeholders during the two-day national stock-taking consultative workshop on Justice for Children in Thimphu.  

Punakha district court sentenced a man for illicit trafficking of controlled substances

Punakha District Court sentenced a 29-year-old man from Thimphu to nine years in prison for illicit trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances.

A woman arrested for abandoning her newborn

Punakha Police arrested a 21-year-old woman from Wangdue Phodrang for abandoning her newborn baby girl in Lobesa on Monday. According to the police, the suspect, a private employee delivered the baby inside her house and threw it from the toilet window, from a height of about 4 feet.

3 tshogpas of Gase Tshogongm sentenced to 3 months in prison

The Wangdue Phodrang district court sentenced three chiwog tshogpas of Gase Tshogongm gewog to three months each in prison, yesterday. They were convicted for lack of accountability and transparency and failing to carry out their responsibilities. They can, however, pay in place of their imprisonment.

ADR rules and regulations launched

Bhutan Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre has launched its Rules and Regulations and Website yesterday. With the launch, it is expected to improve service delivery to its clients and arbitrators. The centre deals with civil cases which are commercial in nature.

A 30-year-old man detained by Gelegphu police for allegedly impregnating a minor.

The Gelegphu police detained a 30-year-old man, yesterday, under the suspicion of rape of a 15-year-old school girl. The victim is 5 months pregnant now.

6 men sentenced to more than 5 years for smuggling Hashish.

The Punakha district court sentenced six men to more than five years in prison for smuggling hashish a drug made from the resin of the cannabis (marijuana) plant. The court passed the judgment on Monday.

Boomdeling Gup detained for alleged rape

Trashi Yangtse police detained the Gup of Boomdeling Gewog for alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl earlier this month.

Three men arrested for stealing Thangkas

Punakha police arrested three men for stealing seven Thangkas from Khenchendrak Lhakhang at Nidupchu in Chhubu Gewog of Punakha. Police recovered one stolen Thanka from the suspects.

Four men sentenced for smuggling marijuana & burglary

Wangdue Phodrang District sentenced four men from three years to five years in prison for burglary and smuggling of marijuana. However, they can appeal to the higher court if they are not satisfied with the judgment.
