6 men sentenced to more than 5 years for smuggling Hashish.

The Punakha district court sentenced six men to more than five years in prison for smuggling hashish a drug made from the resin of the cannabis (marijuana) plant. The court passed the judgment on Monday.

Boomdeling Gup detained for alleged rape

Trashi Yangtse police detained the Gup of Boomdeling Gewog for alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl earlier this month.

Three men arrested for stealing Thangkas

Punakha police arrested three men for stealing seven Thangkas from Khenchendrak Lhakhang at Nidupchu in Chhubu Gewog of Punakha. Police recovered one stolen Thanka from the suspects.

Wangdue Phodrang District sentenced four men from three years to five years in prison for burglary and smuggling of marijuana. However, they can appeal to the higher court if they are not satisfied with the judgment.

OAG forwards the CLCS case to Trongsa Police

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) determined three former lecturers of the College of Language and Culture Studies (CLCS) in Trongsa to be charged and prosecuted for alleged sexual harassment. The Office returned the case to Trongsa Police on Wednesday after charges against three accused were graded as a petty misdemeanour.

Two women caught for illegal possession of tobacco products

Trongsa Police arrested two women aged 33 and 37 from Punakha and Wangdue for illegal possession of tobacco products.

ACC freezes another over 19 acres of land

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), last month, issued another freeze notice of over 19 acres of land involved with Damchoe Choden, the former project manager of Buddha Dordenma Image Foundation in Thimphu. The lands belong to nine individuals in Paro, Punakha and Thimphu.

Chang Gup’s encroachment of government land, Thimphu district court passes judgement

Thimphu district court bench II sentenced the former Chang gup Kanjur to a concurrent judgement of two years in prison for illegal encroachment of government land, deception, forgery and official misconduct on June 14. Another person, the then land record officer Karma Jamtsho was also sentenced to a year in prison.

Three men arrested for alleged robbery in Trashi Yangtse

Trashi Yangtse police arrested three men in connection with an alleged robbery of two cat’s eye or dzee and a few corals. The incident took place on the 6th of this month.

BNLI to institutionalise Court-Annexed Mediation in the judiciary system

To improve access to justice and offer an alternative to adversarial litigations, the Bhutan National Legal Institute (BNLI) will institutionalise the Court-Annexed Mediation in the judiciary system of Bhutan. It will first be established in eight courts across the country. As part of it, the Chief Justice launched four booklets on Court-Annexed Mediation in Paro recently.
