Five para-athletes along with five other table tennis players of the sub-junior category took part in the first ever Para-Table Tennis Festival in Thimphu.
The Bhutan Table Tennis Federation (BTTF) in collaboration with the Bhutan Paralympic Committee (BPC) conducted the festival.
The two-day event, which ended today, was conducted to promote table tennis among children living with disabilities.
“In the future, we want these children to compete in the international tournaments,” Namgay Dorji, a table tennis Coach with BTTF, said.
The coach added the federation is currently in need of more skilled people to teach the game to children living with disabilities.
“While some children are physically challenged, there are a few who are mentally challenged. So, it is essential to know how to deal with them,” he said.
The federation is hoping the festival would serve as a platform for both participants and its coaches to learn the required skills.
