The Food Corporation of Bhutan launched the first-ever Quinoa processing plant in Phuentshogling today. Consumers will be able to get well-packaged Quinoa from the market now. The processing unit can process 500 kilograms of Quinoa per hour. The plant is worth more than Nu 3 M.
Quinoa often called, superfood is one of the world’s popular foods. It is rich in protein, vitamins, fibre and iron. One can use quinoa like any other grain, like rice or barley.
The crop was introduced to Bhutan from Peru in 2015. Today, Quinoa is grown in an estimated area of 600 acres of land in the country.
