(Update:) Trashigang’s National Council candidate who withdrew his application says it is the people’s reaction that made him take the step.
According to Sangay Tenzin, 33, who was nominated from Radhi Gewog, people have been associating his nomination with the Druk Phuensum Tshogpa party. “I am not happy about that. The people also do not have much confidence in me.”
The Election officials said Sangay Tenzin had submitted the required documents but withdrew voluntarily during the final scrutiny.
Trashigang Dzongkhag is now left with only one candidate in the upcoming NC Elections. The former National Council representative, Dasho Dr. Sonam Kinga, from Shongphu Gewog, is the lone contender from the Dzongkhag.
Trashigang has more than 41,000 eligible voters for the National Council elections, the second highest in the country.
The common forum for the lone contender will start on April 5 and ends on April 19 of this month.
