It’s not necessary to walk into an office to submit documents every time an agency announces a job vacancy if one is registered with e-LaYog. With the use of this newly launched web application, it enables job seekers to apply to any vacancy online from the phone, thereby eliminating cost incurred on documents and transportation. One just needs to register once and then applying to any job vacancies is just a click away. An aspiring tech entrepreneur developed the e-LaYog app some two months ago.
Taking inspiration from His Majesty The King’s National Day address on Digital Drukyul, 27-year-old Tandin Dorji developed the app. The app will act as a bridge between the employer and the job seekers to make the recruitment process easier and less laborious and tedious. While job seekers just have to register once to benefit from the app, for the employers, if they choose to partner with e-LaYog, starting from document verification to shortlisting, the e-LaYog team will take care of it. Currently, the team has onboard Bhutan Power Corporation and Bhutan Livestock Development Corporation Limited. The e-LaYog team on behalf of them is currently verifying documents and shortlisting applicants for 22 vacancies floated by these two companies.
“So these two companies are recruiting people and they agreed to use our e-LaYog application. When these employers post their job vacancies through us, then the registered and verified job seekers can see and apply to these positions. So the process is first they register, we verify and whatever jobs are posted on e-LaYog, they can apply. So it’s a three-step process,” said Tandin Dorji, the Financial Consultant at e-LaYog.
Tandin has managed to employ 11 part-timers and three full-time employees. He added that while the traditional way of submitting a job application manually would cost more than Nu 500, the app will charge Nu 150 per application which is reduced to 100 after the first five jobs. However, there is no fee for job seekers to register with the app.
“Currently what’s happening is that each of the employers will recruit on their own and as a result, if I am applying to five companies, I have to do a set of five documents and deliver it to them individually. But with e-LaYog what we are able to do is, we are able to get the documents from the job seekers digitally into our system, check it once and they are done. Now if the employers come on board with us like BPC and Bhutan Livestock, they can just float the vacancies with us,” he added.
Meanwhile, for job seekers, the app is practical and useful especially at times like the pandemic.
“We do not have to go to the offices, fill up the forms and waste our time. We can directly apply online being at home. And it’s especially handy at times like this pandemic where it’s risky to travel, we can apply online and be safer,” said Tshewang Peldon, a job seeker.
“For instance, if a person is in eastern districts like Trashigang and Pema Gatshel, they don’t have to come in person to Thimphu to hand over their documents which do not waste time. We can submit the documents sitting at home with the help of a laptop or a phone,” added Sonam Pem, also a job seeker.
More than 2,500 job seekers have registered with the app. Tandin believes that if technology entrepreneurs like him are given an opportunity, going digital is not a far-fetched dream.
