The draft Mineral Development Policy has not been put up to the Cabinet even though it was to be submitted a year ago.
Economic affairs ministry is still continuing consultations with relevant agencies, the World Bank, and other international agencies.
“The ministry is pushing hard for the draft Mineral Development Policy to be put forward to the Cabinet no sooner than this July,” the economic affairs minister, Lekey Dorji said.
Lyonpo also said the ministry is mindful of all the issues associated with the draft policy from the miner’s point of view as well as from the stakeholders.
The policy’s objective is to have properly planned, efficiently regulated, and professionally managed mining industry. It also highlights that social and environmental consequences and their management are adequately addressed.
