The government will construct the Kuri-Gongri to Sherichu bypass during their term. It has been a year since the Ministry of Works and Human Settlement started working on the Detailed Project Report. It is the ruling party’s pledge. If it comes through, the road will benefit four districts of Monggar, Trashi Yangtse, Trashigang and Pema Gatshel.
The Kengkhar-Weringla MP Rinzin Jamtsho from Monggar asked about the status of the bypass. He asked the same question a year ago.
The Minister for Works and Human Settlement, Dorji Tshering, did not specify when the construction would begin but said a final detailed project report will be ready soon.
Lyonpo said about 50 per cent of the work is expected to be completed during the present government’s tenure. The bypass between Kuri-Gongri and Sherichu will be about 52 kilometres long. The minister said it would cost about Nu 2-3bn.
