The construction of 122-metre long Bailey Suspension bridge over Amochu in Samtse is likely to complete only in March next year. It was supposed to be ready by June this year.
Once complete, the bridge will connect Dophuchen and Duenchhukha gewogs in Samtse.
The construction works began in 2012.
As per the plan, it should have been completed six months ago.
The abutment or the concrete foundation on the one side of the bridge was completed this month. While on the other side of the river, the work is skeletal and the earth has just been dug.
This is the last phase of the construction, which will be completed, only in end of March next year.
“We are hopeful that the contractor will be able to complete it within the stipulated time and if it is done within the March next year, it shouldn’t be a problem either from villagers side or from the Government side as well,” said the information and communications’ Minister, DN Dhungyel.
Once complete, the bridge will benefit over 11,000 people of Dophuchen and Duenchhukha gewogs. It will also help people from Doomtoed gewog in Samtse and Haa.
The Contractor, Lobzang Tsering, said the work got delayed due to swollen Amochu and he has been given three more months by the Government to complete the abutment.
After the abutment of the bridge is complete, The Construction Development Corporation will take over the work.
The Government of India funded the construction of the bridge which costs about Nu.40 MN.
