A Civil Society Organisation named Chithuen Phendhey Association carried out a national drugs awareness campaign in Monggar, yesterday.
During the awareness campaign, over 100 teachers, parents, and business communities were all ears when the association highlighted on mindful-parenting, negative ramifications of drugs and alcohol abuse and its prevention.
The Executive Director of Chithuen Phendhey Association, Tshewang Tenzin exhorted that it’s everyone’s responsibility to act and prevent drugs and alcohol abuse in the country.
“If we can create advocacy on drugs and alcohol, everyone would shoulder their own responsibilities. For instance, what is the responsibility of parents to prevent abusing drugs and alcohol? One method is that we could educate them,” added the Executive Director.
Currently, the association has completed creating awareness on drugs and alcohol in five districts including Thimphu, Chhukha, Samdrup Jongkhar, Trashigang, and Monggar.
In coming days, they are going to replicate the awareness programme in Bumthang, Trongsa, and Wangdue Phodrang.
The three-month long awareness campaign was launched in Thimphu, last month and endeavours to cover 20 percent of the population on being anti drugs and alcohol.
Chithuen Phendhey Association was established in 2010 to raise awareness and advocate people on drugs and alcohol.
