Need for proper care of facilities along Tsirang’s 360-degree track

The 360-degree track constructed above Damphu town in Tsirang has provided a platform for hikers and cyclists in the district to pursue their passion. Besides spending their leisure time meaningfully, they can maintain healthy lifestyles.  The track also helps in promoting domestic tourism. However, some residents raised concerns about the lack of proper care of the amenities along the track.

National Land Commission receives high-resolution satellite images for strategic developmental projects

Two sets of high-resolution satellite images were handed over to the National Land Commission Secretariat in Thimphu today. The images are of the north-central and major urban areas of Bhutan with more details of each location. The National Land Commission Secretariat says the delivered images can be used for various developmental plans such as disaster prevention, agriculture, water resource management, urban development and forest conservation. 

Lunana Gewog exploring shorter-distance mule track

Lunana Gewog in Gasa is trying every possible way to reduce travel distances and ensure a year-round access route for the residents. Currently, they can barely travel during winter as the route remains covered with thick snow. So, the Gewog administration is exploring a shorter-distance mule track.

BCTA addresses safety concerns at Thimphu driving test area

To address safety concerns at the driving test area in Thimphu, the Bhutan Construction and Transport Authority, BCTA, has been searching for a new location since last year. While the search continues, they have secured permission to clear a stretch near the current range from the Thimphu Thromde as a temporary measure.

50 schools receive electric cookers as part of National School Feeding Programme

As part of the National School Feeding Programme, nearly 50 schools across the country are receiving heavy-duty electric cookers from the Ministry of Education and Skills Development. The project is being funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency, KOICA with support from the World Food Programme.

DPR of Dorjilung Hydropower Project to complete soon, says PM

Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, in his maiden visit to the eastern region since assuming office, informed civil servants and local leaders of Lhuentse today that the detailed project report for the Dorjilung Hydropower Project will be completed soon. Similarly, he announced to the business community in Trashi Yangtse’s Doksum town that work on the 600-megawatt Kholongchu Hydropower Project will resume soon.

Remembering Lyonpo Ugyen Tshering

On the 30th of January, a long-time servant of Bhutan, Lyonpo Ugyen Tshering, passed away. The first democratically-elected foreign minister was known for his intelligence, hard work, eloquence, and humility. Lyonpo Ugyen brought the first computer to Bhutan and had a hand in purchasing the country’s first aircraft. He spent his life serving the country under the reigns of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, and His Majesty The King. Afflicted by Parkinson’s disease, Lyonpo retired from public life in 2013. Here is a look back at his life and legacy.
