Amidst much excitement and anticipation, the only synthetic track in the country was inaugurated yesterday. Constructed at a cost of US$ 660,000, the synthetic track took more than two years to complete. It has all the basic facilities required in track and field events.
His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck also graced the inauguration.
According to the General Secretary of the Bhutan Amateur Athletics Federation, Dorji Tenzin, the track and field stadium is mainly for the youth.
He said this facility will take youth off the streets and encourage them to live healthy. It is also to foster productive friendship among themselves.
During the opening ceremony a series of track and field events for both men and women were organised.
