Flood mitigation works in Trashi Yangtse town to be complete this month

The construction of the flood protection wall along the Serkhang stream, which flows through Trashi Yangtse town, is nearing completion.

The construction works of the 450-metre long wall, which began earlier this year, is expected to complete by this month.

The Serkhang stream swells during monsoon, posing threat to the town residents.

“Town residents had to evacuate to higher grounds for two days during the last monsoon,” Dzongrab Lam Dorji said

“To prevent flood, we are constructing protection walls on both sides of the stream.”

Besides the construction of the protection walls, two Reinforced Cement Concrete bridges are also being constructed.

The flood mitigation works are being carried out at a cost of Nu 20 M.
