The Bhutanese hits the market

Coinciding with the Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the King, The Bhutanese, another private newspaper, hits the market with its first edition. It is the first broadsheet newspaper in the country. Its prime focus will be on investigative journalism, political, economic issues and corruption. It will also look into abuse of power, inform and bring positive changes among others.

The Chief Executive Officer, Tenzin Lamsang, said he has a lot of advantages since he had been working in the media for over a long period of time.“The competition in the Bhutanese print market is intense but I believe there is always space for quality journalism and right now the Bhutanese media market has to move beyond quantity and move on to quality.

That will be the next evolution of Bhutanese media,” he said, adding that more competition will only lead to better quality and better news coming out, which will ultimately benefit ‘our Bhutanese readers and the country.’

The paper will be bi-weekly for few months. But there are plans to make it a daily paper soon. There are over 12 newspapers in the country.
