DHI’s net worth increases to over Nu 88bn

After a decade of its establishment, the Druk Holding and Investments (DHI) have increased the group’s net worth to over Nu 88bn from over Nu 22bn in 2008.  This was revealed at its annual press conference held in Thimphu yesterday.

The Chief Executive Officer of DHI, Dasho Karma Yezer Raydi, attributed the increase in net worth to the annual increase in paid-up share capital and reserve.

The paid-up share capital increased from Nu 45,087.59 M in 2016 to Nu. 45,946.20 M in 2017.

Similarly, the total amount of reserve also increased from Nu 35,699.89 M 2016 to Nu 38,033.61 M in 2017.

Today there are 19 companies under DHI of which nine are fully owned.

The State Mining Corporation Limited was the highest contributor in terms of return on equity in 2017. In its second year of operation, the company paid an income tax of Nu 24 M.

The company was followed by Bhutan Telecom, registered as the second highest return on equity in the financial year 2017. Also in the same year, the office recorded the highest shareholders return among the DHI companies.

On the other hand, due to the lower generation of hydrological flows, Druk Green Power Corporation’s profitability was reduced to 8.5 percent.  Similarly, Bhutan Power Corporation’s profitability also came down by close to 16 percent.

According to the Annual Report of DHI 2017, DHI and its group companies have continued to improve their performances despite numerous challenges faced by the companies across all segments.
